College computer engineering programs exposes the students to a variety of computer related issues covering both the hardware and software. Computer engineering college students can either specialize in software engineering or hardware engineering. Software engineering will mainly focus on the development, design, analysis, implementation and maintenance of the computer software. Cambridge Colleges All Over the Place

When you visit Cambridge to find the University, you may be surprised, to say the least to find that it is located in many areas of Cambridge. Whilst travelling to the many locations, you will be taken through courtyards, ancient lanes and gardens. The majority of the colleges are open to the public. There are a grand total of 31 colleges.

Peterhouse is the oldest college in Cambridge founded in 1284. Situated south of the city centre it has been rebuilt and added to many times over the years. Lord Kelvin, creator of the Kelvin temperature scale, was one of the notable Petreans who attended the college in the 19th century. Lord Kelvin provided the first electric lighting for Peterhouse's 600th anniversary, the first such for any Cambridge college.

Crossing over Trumpington Street to the east will take you to Pembroke College. It is one of the bigger colleges with a mix of buildings from a majority of the centuries since foundation in 1347. The Baroque chapel was the first building by Sir Christopher Wren and was consecrated in 1665.

Trinity College has perhaps the grandest scholarly record of all the colleges and boasts 32 Nobel prizes amongst members. Founded in 1546 by Henry VIII it has been preferred by royalty down the ages and has educated 6 Prime ministers. Isaac Newton studied here in the 17th century. The first formal rules of football were drawn up here in 1848. As you enter the great gate at Trinity be sure to check to see what the statue of Henry VIII holds in his hand.

Kings College is home to the iconic Kings College Chapel. A punt along the river Cam will take you past the magnificent Gothic facade which overlooks a beautiful green to make it one of the defining views of the city. The chapel is home to the famous Nine Lessons and Carols broadcast every year on the BBC on Christmas Eve. It also displays the painting "The Adoration of the Magi" by Rubens and the world's biggest fan vault ceiling.

Travelling south will take you to Queens College, founded in 1448. It is one of two colleges that have buildings either side of the Cam. The Mathematical Bridge joins the two sides using tangential timbers and makes a great photo.

Futurism and Fascism

Those individuals which do a lot of thinking about the future, often associate themselves with the title of futurist. What many people do not understand is that futurism, socialism, and fascism are actually tied together with many historical examples. Still, one has to ask can you be a futurist without being a socialist? This is a very interesting point, and there is a group called the Futurists in the United States and most of the people in the group do hold socialist views.

Many of them classify themselves as Democrats or liberals, but they really are not liberals by strict definition, as most truly are socialist leaning and they wish to put controls on to the society and get everyone thinking a certain way to live together in harmony, yet at the same time they often negate all the human characteristics of mankind.

The group itself uses many socialist type controls and promises people who join the group that they will teach them how to think correctly to solve problems for the future and predict it. Interestingly enough, this is quite problematic because if someone is predicting the future, and telling everyone how to think, they are actually creating a self-fulfilling prophecy and if that prophecy is tied to socialist tendencies and leads to Fascist dictation of how the civilization and society will run, then you can see the problem.

Folks should not be so awestruck by futurist or by their purported wisdom. If we are to follow many of these futurists and their ideas for the future we will find that they will micromanage our lives and end up taking away all of our freedoms for the benefit of their created utopias in the process. Indeed they will claim they are creating the greatest of utopias that can last for 1000 years, but in reality no one in their right mind who understands what freedom truly as would ever want to live there.Sure we can create a wonderful beehive of humanity; but quite frankly that doesn't interest me, and aren't the bees dying off anyway. Please consider all this.

Big Future Prospects For Health and Medicine

In the past few decades the advancement in technology have been vast, this has allowed for numerous discoveries and improvements in healthcare. Some of the prospects for the future of health and medicine are truly astounding and if they come about they will revolutionise the area of medicine and health. So what are these future prospects.

1) Treating infertility

I decided to start with this because it has been shown all over the news in the recent week. The university of Newcastle in England have created sperm artificially using male cells. This means that we could in the future treat infertility in men and help thousands if not millions of couple's to conceive.

2) Cloning

Cloning has always got a bad rap from the press and yes there are numerous ethical issues surrounding it, but let's have a look at the advantages of therapeutic cloning. This form of cloning can be used to help create cells that can be used in medicine for example in tissue engineering or for use in transplantation.

3) Stem cells research

Another one to hit the papers frequently. This links in with therapeutic cloning in terms of uses. However the distinction here is that you use stem cell lines. Stem cells have the capability to transform into any cell type and this is advantageous because it can be used for many purposes such as creating bone marrow or blood cells. This will eliminate the laborious task of finding a donor for chronically ill individuals.

4) Genetic engineering

We are who we are because of our genes, so being able to modify your genes would have profound effects on who you are. This can become beneficial especially for individuals who suffer from conditions which are the result of defective genes. These conditions include muscular dystrophies, haemophilia, cystic fibrosis, list goes on. With the human genome now fully sequenced it is only a matter of time before we can effectively modify our genes to treat illnesses in the future.

Now don't get too optimistic these are all definite possibilities for the future but we are not sure if they will become reality however we can assume that with the continual improvements in technology and medical research it is possible that these future prospects will become a reality.

School Blogs can Revolutionize Schools

School blogs can transform virtually every aspect of school life. I appreciate that's a bold claim but I'm going to back it up with some illustrations. I am also going to show you how easy it is to set up a complete school blogging platform with no technical knowledge whatsoever.

Before I go any further though, let me define what I mean by school blogs. Although blogs may have started out rather like online diaries, software such as WordPress (yes, it's a version of WordPress that I am going to recommend) is quite capable of creating complex websites incorporating multimedia elements. The WordPress platform makes the production of engaging content as simple as using a word processor, allowing users to focus on content. It also allows readers to interact through comments and this is one of the main reasons why school blogs can be so powerful.

So think of a blog as an interactive personal website.
What I am suggesting is not that the school has a blog but rather that everyone IN the school has a blog - teachers, students, administrators - even parents. Here are some examples:

# Lessons - let's imagine a teacher, Mr Geography. His next few lessons will cover the Amazon jungle. So he transfers an outline of his lesson plan to a blog post and adds in some images, a couple of videos from YouTube showing some Amazonian wildlife and links to the National Geographic website. For homework, the students will visit his post, possibly leave some comments, and then create their own posts answering the questions he set. (Don't worry, there are many ways to stop plagiarism.)

The students have thus had a much richer and creative experience than simply reading a text book. Their work will remain online for future revision. It can even be made public and form part of a showcase of what students are achieving. Not only can this inspire children, it is a wonderful way for parents and grandparents to share in a student's progress. This increased involvement can have many dividends in fundraising.

# Sports - the latest results and performances of the school teams can be shared online through reports, photographs and videos. Again, a much broader community can share in the school's activities.

# Special Interests - this is a broad catch-all category for all the other activities that students may engage in, from dance, drama and music (reviews of theater visits, progress on their own productions etc.) through to IT, photography and debating clubs, The blogs of participant students help their development and publicize what they are doing to a wider audience. The school becomes a much more vibrant place.

# Field Trips and Holidays - parents can be kept informed of what is happening and the whole experience enriched and captured for posterity through blog entries.
I have only hinted at some of the incredible possibilities for using school blogs. I would like to emphasise a few points. Firstly, most of what is produced is almost a by-product of current activities - this is a different way of working rather than extra work. Secondly, much of it is created by the students themselves. Finally, despite the stunning results that can be achieved, this is actually very easy to implement.

I mentioned the WordPress platform earlier. There is a mutli-user version of WordPress, WPMU, that provides the basis for my recommended approach to school blogging. If you are considering how to set up school blogs with maximum effectiveness and ease-of-use, I would suggest an out-of-the box solution incorporating a number of plugins. This will allow you to focus on the benefits the system can bring rather than spending days tweaking settings to achieve an inferior solution.
